Strategic Reader is based on a live mini-course, the Harvard Course in Reading and Study Strategies, offered by the Bureau of Study Counsel (BSC) at Harvard University. The course was originally developed by William G. Perry, Jr., the founding director of the BSC. It has been continuously revised to reflect advances in the field of reading cognition and changes in reading demands and media.
Having taken the course, taught it many times, designed and directed its major revisions and renovations, and now translated it into an online format, Abigail Lipson and Sheila M. Reindl are committed to integrating the core, durable wisdom of the original course with contemporary research and technology.
Lipson (former Director of the BSC) and Reindl (current Associate Director of the BSC) have long served as stewards of the live course, and they believe that Strategic Reader can introduce students everywhere to the powerful, creative, and transformative possibilities of reading with an inquiring mind.
